The 3rd match of the Vivo IPL 2018 was played between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday 9th April. It was a super Sunday hence two matches were played and this was the second match of the day. The home captain D Karthik won the toss and asked the visitors RCB to bat first. RCB opened with a new pair for this season with B McCullum and Q de Kock. The first over went really well for RCB as they scored 14 runs in the first over. But de Kock was removed by Chawla in the very next over. Captain Kohli joined McCullum and lead the innings. Kohli than was joined by Ab Devillers who was on fire from ball one. The flow of the innings was going really well till N Rana came into bowling attack and dismissed both DeVillers and Kohli on back to back deliveries. This lead to slow down in the run flow and RCB only managed a total of 176 that was once expected to reach 190-200.
The innings of KKR also didn’t begin on a good note as star player Chris Lynn departed early credits to a brilliant catch by Ab Devillers. Soon it was Sunil Narine’s show who smacked the bowlers down the park and scored his second fastest fifty in IPL that came in only 16 balls. He was later removed by Umesh Yadav. But the sublime innings had taken the game away from RCB. It was a matter of time that KKR sailed smoothly to home with 4 wickets remaining and more than an over to spare.
