The champion of IPL Season -1, Rajasthan Royals is a representative team of Rajasthan in the Vivo Indian Premier League (IPL) which is owned by a group of people including Manoj Badle, Raj Kundra, Shilpa Shetty, and others. Manoj Badle and his partners paid a huge sum of $67 million for the ownership rights of the team. Currently, the team has a brand value of $27 million. Rahul Dravid was handling the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals during IPL season 2012. After that Shane Watson was declared as the captain of Rajasthan Royals in 2013 and Rahul Dravid worked as a mentor for the team. Later in 2015, the captain was again changed and this time it was Steven Smith, a top-order Australian Batsman.
The Home ground of Rajasthan Royals is the Sawai Mansingh Stadium situated in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The stadium has a capability of 30,000 people. Rajasthan Royals have two secondary home grounds which are Sardar Patel Stadium in Ahmedabad and Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. All the home matches of Royals were played in the Sawai Mansingh ground/stadium. But in IPL 2014 season, all home matches of Rajasthan Royals were hosted in Sardar Patel stadium, the secondary home ground of Royals.

In 2008 Auctions, the Rajasthan Royals bought cricketers who were not terribly popular or unknown, who never played international games. The franchise had also bought players who never played top-class cricket like Dinesh Salunkhe and Pravin Tambe and bought only a few experienced cricketers. The last match of the tournament was worth watching as the CSK had given them a tough meet. in the finals, CSK batted first and scored 163 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 5 wickets and in the next inning, RR scored 164 runs in 20 overs with a loss of 7 wickets. Only one ball was left for RR with an equal score and they needed 1 run to win. And Sohail Tanvir scored that winning run on the last ball. The team was awarded a prize money of 1.2 million USD.
The second season of IPL was organized in South Africa due to some security problems in India. The journey of Rajasthan Royals was operose and the team was looking weaker than season 1 due to unavailability of good players like Shane Watson and Sohail Tanvir. Sohail Tanvir, being a Pakistani Player, was banned from IPL and Shane Watson was busy in another cricket tournament held in UAE. Shane Warne was handling the captaincy of RR in this season also. The beginning of Rajasthan Royals was not so good as the Champions of season 1 lost their first match by 75 runs and with the second lowest score of IPL (58 runs) against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. And thus, after losing their quarterfinals match against Kolkata Knight Riders, they were out of the tournament on 20 May 2009. At the beginning of IPL Season 2010, players of Rajasthan Royals were excited and ready to defeat every team but again they lost their first match against Mumbai Indians at the Brabourne Stadium with a narrow score of 4 runs. The Rajasthan Royals lost first 3 consecutive matches in the tournament and won next 4 consecutive matches in IPL 2010. Everyone was thinking that this time RR could make it to the finals. In 2011, Rajasthan Royals and Kings XI Punjab had briefly ejected from the league due to problems with their unreported possession changes. In IPL season 2012, Shane Warne quit the captaincy of Rajasthan Royals and left the team. The captaincy was given to ‘THE WALL’ Rahul Dravid. Under the captaincy of Rahul Dravid, the Rajasthan Royals has a good start in their journey of IPL 2012 tournament. They played their first match against Kings XI Punjab and won the game by 31 runs. RR won their first two matches in IPL and was a good start for them. However, they lost their next two matches consecutively and only won 7 matches out of the 16 they played. They were just one match away from the qualifier round but they lost that match and hence lost the tournament once again. This time, the team was standing at 7th position among the point table at the end of the tournament.
The IPL season 6 featured 9 teams and was played from 3 April to 26 May in 2013. This season was full of Ups and Downs for the Rajasthan Royals as they won the first match and lost the 2nd match and so on but this time their performance was better than previous seasons. Rajasthan Royals qualified for the qualifier round by finishing third within the group stage, therefore grabbing a spot in the IPL 2013. They won against Sunrisers Hyderabad in the eliminator round, however, lost to Mumbai Indians in the second qualifier round and that did certain their exit from the championship league. Shane Watson was declared as the ‘Man of the Tournament’. IPL season 7 was played from 16 April to 1 June among 8 teams. In this season Rajasthan Royals held in 5 players Ajinkya Rahane, Shane Watson, Sanju Samson, James novelist and Stuart Binny for the seventh season of the IPL. Shane Watson was declared as the captain of Rajasthan Royals for this season and Rahul Dravid did not play any match and worked as a mentor for the Team of RR. The Royals played a total number of 14 matches in this season and won only 6 of them. And this time they did not even qualified for the Qualifier Round 1. However, the 4th match of Rajasthan Royals was very interesting and worth watching which was against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. In this match, Rajasthan Royals scored 65 runs in just in 17 balls and they won the match by 6 wickets in 13 overs.
Rajasthan Royals started its journey of IPL 2015 by an amazing and impressive performance in the stadium. The RR franchise won all the first five matches consecutively and made everyone to believe that team could reach the finals this time. And in this season of IPL, Steve Smith was the captain of Rajasthan Royals. The first five matches that RR won were worth watching and gave a hope to all the fans of RR that this season RR could win the championship. The Royals went far on the journey and reached the Eliminator stage but lost the match to Royal Challengers Bengaluru by 72 runs. In this match, Rajasthan Royals scored 109 runs only while RCB gave them a target of 181 runs. Rajasthan Royals ended at the 4th place on the point table.
